[glow=red,2,300]Signing Up[/glow]
Well, in order to do certain things on this forum and access certain boards, you kind of need an account. To create an account you just click on the "Register" button at the top of the screen. Follow the directions on the registration form, and an activation email will be sent to your email account. Open the email, and follow the link in it to the activation page. It will ask you to enter the activation code (which is included with the email), and then you're registered. ^-^
[glow=red,2,300]Logging In[/glow]
If you want to post messages on the boards as a registered member, you’ll need to login. To access the login screen, click on the “Log In” button from the top of the page. Enter your username and password in the two boxes, select how long you want to stay logged in (anywhere from “15 minutes” to “Forever”) and click on “Login” to log yourself in. Note that your username (the name you use to log in) may not be the same as your display name (the name displayed in each of your posts). You can change your display name in your profile, but you can’t change your username.
[glow=red,2,300]Editing Profiles[/glow]
To open up your profile (you have to be logged in of course), just click on the “Profile” button at the top of the page. If you want to modify your profile, select “Modify Profile” from the profile screen. This is what you get to see on the next screen…
Username: You can’t change this, so you’d better remember it. ^-^. This is the name you chose when you first registered and the one you enter every time you log in. It might not be the same as your display name.
Password: If you want to change your password, you can enter the new password in the text box. You’ll have to enter it again in the text box below. If you don’t want to change your password, you can just leave both boxes blank.
Email Address: If you want to change your email address just enter the new email address in the text box. You’ll be sent a new activation email and will have to reactivate your account if you do this.
Display Name: I didn’t want my name to show up in all my posts as “admin” (my username) so I decided to make my display name different from my username. If you want to change your display name (the name that appears in all your posts and throughout the forum), just enter the new name in the text box.
Gender: You don’t have to choose anything for this option if you don’t want to. Really, the only required things you need to enter are marked with an asterisk (*) on the profile editing page. If you don’t want to display it, you can pick “prefer not to disclose”, or you can display it if you want. Remember that it will appear in all your posts…
Location: Another un-required thing. If you want to display your location (it doesn’t even have to be real – you can put “the moon” or something if you want) you can enter it in the text box. If you don’t want your location displayed, just enter nothing.
Web Site Name and URL: If you want to put a link to your web site in your profile, you can enter the website’s name and the website’s URL in the 2 text boxes. If you don’t want to put anything here you can just leave it blank.
Avatar: That’s the picture that’s displayed underneath your display name. I uploaded over 20 cheesy avatars to the forum, so if you want to pick one of those, go ahead. Just select from the drop-down menu if you want one. ^-^. If you want to put your own avatar up, you should get a site like photobucket.com to host the image. Copy the URL, and paste it in the text box labeled “Avatar URL”. Undeneath that, you can alter how big the image will be when displayed by entering its height and width (in pixels) in the 2 text boxes below. Note that it can’t go bigger than 100x100. My current avatar is 100x100 pixels.
If you don’t want an avatar at all, just select “None” from the drop-down menu.
Personal Text: Well, just what it says… a bit of personal text. Whatever you enter in this box will be displayed under your avatar. I change mine pretty frequently.
Signature: This is displayed at the bottom of all your posts. You can enter text here, or put pictures. To put pictures in, you’ll need to get a site like photobucket.com to host the image, then copy and paste its bbcode straight into the signature text box. (Note: For the signature, you can’t use more then 400 characters, and this includes the bbcode for any images you want to put in the signature)
Instant Messengers: If you want to enter screen names, numbers, or email addresses for messenger programs like MSN Messenger, AIM, YIM and ICQ, enter them in the text boxes. The only one of these messengers I’m familiar with is MSN Messenger, so I don’t really know what they’re talking about when they say “your ICQ UIN number”…
Show Age: You don’t have to have your age displayed. I displayed mine, but that’s just me. *people look in Roku Megami’s profile and gawk* What? Yes, that is my real age, I am really that old. ^-^ But yeah… I don’t consider it old at all. ^-^
Anyway… select “Yes” if you want both your age and birthday to be displayed in your profile, and “No” of you want to hide both of these.
Hide Email: Very simple. If you want to hide your email address from other members, select “Yes”. If you don’t want to hide your email address, select “No”.
Stay Invisible: If you select “Yes”, you will not appear online to other members. The only ones who will be able to see that you're online are people with the ability to see invisible users (i.e. only the admin) If you select “No” you will appear online to anyone.
Show Signatures: If you select “Yes” , signatures will be displayed to you at the bottom of all posts. But if you select “No”, there will be no signatures displayed to you at the bottom of any posts on the forum.
Show Avatars: Same as Show Signatures, except it’s avatars this time. If you don’t want to see anyone’s avatar, just select “No”.
Show Images: If you select “No”, images will all be replaced by text. It looks kind of… bad… but it makes the forum run faster. ^-^
Select Skin: Use the drop-down menu to pick what skin (color scheme) you want to see when viewing the forum. ^-^ Note that this doesn’t set the forum’s default skin – the admin does that. This is to select what skin comes up whenever you’re logged in. ^-^ (The default skin for this forum is “The OTHER Skin”, by the way)
Time Format: You can select from 2 choices here: 1/ 12-hour time (i.e. 5:00 in the evening is “5:00 PM”) or 2/ 24-hour time (i.e. 5:00 in the evening is “17:00”). (The default is 12-hour time.)
Date Format: Use the drop-down menu to select what way you want the date displayed. There are 8 different choices… for example… “Jan 16, 2006, 11:03 PM” or “Jan 16, 2006 at 11:03 PM” or even “01/16/06 at 11:03 PM” … not to mention 5 other choices. (the default is “Jan 16, 2006, 11:03 PM”.)
Month Format: There are 2 choices here: 1/ month displayed before date (i.e. “January 16”) or 2/ date displated before month (i.e. “16 January”). (the default is “January 16”)
Time Zone: Just use the drop-down menu to locate your own time zone on the list. If you’re not quite sure of your time zone… just keep selecting random time zones until the time at the top of the forum matches the time where you live. ^-^ All times on the forum will be converted to that time zone whenever you log in. (the default is GMT-4… that’s the admin’s time zone ^-^.)
[Admin Functions] If the edit profile screen is accessed from an admin account, 8 additional functions will appear at the bottom of the screen. Otherwise, there’s nothing here. This is how I assign people to member groups (mods, global mods, etc.), along with a few other administrative chores.
The assistant admin has access to 7 of these 8 functions.
So if you read all that and still want to become a registered member, by all means sign up! ^-^
