Okay, I just got one of the biggest forum-related frights ever. I was browsing the forum, when suddenly I found myself logged out. However, my name was still on the users online list, and it was still saying that there was 1 admin logged into the forum. I tried refreshing the page and it didn't change anything. I tried closing down the page and re-opening it, and it didn't change anything. I was viewing the forum as an Anonymous Farmer, and someone... else... was logged into my admin account. I entered my admin username and password, and fortunately that overwrote the "logged-in" admin and let me log into my own forum. But still. For a few minutes there, some unknown Anonymous Farmer was seemingly accessing my main admin account.
I changed my password right away - and I advise the rest of you members to do the same whenever you can... because if your account gets hacked by someone, it can be a devastating experience. It's hard to believe, but hackers are out there looking for sites to hack into... this has happened before to other Proboards users.
If someone does hack into your forum account I can restore it for you, but if someone hacks into mine, the only people who can restore it are the Proboards staff. If someone were to hack into this site, it's almost certain that my account would be the first one targeted. But they could go after anyone's...
I know I sound like a security freak but when I saw what happened to my account last night... I became paranoid.

Yeah... if my account was hacked I'd cry. Maybe not cry, but I'd be severely disappointed. So if the event happens that the main admin of this forum starts spamming like crazy, my account was probably hacked. I never spam. The forum admin has to set an example for the members. By the way, I keep putting my old password in... it's annoying...

Yes.... hacking is serious business. Just remember that if someone does hack your account, here's what you can do... 1. Try the "forgot your password" link first. If the hacker didn't change your email, it will send you the new password. You can use it to get into your account and change your password. 2. If they did change the email, I can still help to restore your account. Let me know somehow about the situation (i.e. create a new account and PM me, or send it to my email address... (lady_megami_023@sailormoon.com)). 3. I can go into your profile and change the password so that the hacker can't access your account anymore. 4. If you created a new account, I can PM the new password to that account. Before I do that, I will verify IP addresses to make sure it's actually the same person and not another hacker... 5. Another thing I could do instead is reset the email address in your profile. This will send an activation email to your email account with a temporary password that you can change... which will allow you to get back into your account...
I know that sounded complicated, but that's how accounts can be restored. However, if someone hacks my account, there's nothing I can do about it. My profile can't be modified by anyone but me - not even people who have the ability to modify profiles can get into the root admin account. I would have to take it up with the Proboards staff... that's the only solution.
Hacking is seriously terrifying. Why people do it is beyond me.

Don't worry, my password is very long and complicated. I'll make a habit to change it every month or so. The thing is, I can't lose the original password I used to create the forum because if someone hacks my account, I'll have to be able to provide that original password to the Proboards Staff.

Talk about anything you want. If it's on topic you can post whatever you'd like in this thread. If it's a completely different topic, you can start your own thread on this board.
OMG. I nearly scared 10 years off my life today when I tried to log in. I booted up the forum, and discovered that I was already "logged in" again. Here's what happened - I had been accessing the forum on my own computer before, using the root Administrator account on Windows XP (which doubles as my main account on my computer). I was going to leave the room for a few minutes, so I signed out of Administrator, bringing the computer back to the main welcome screen (the screen which shows all the accounts on the computer - on my computer, the only accounts are Administrator and G-u-e-s-t). This did not completely log me out of my account - I had chosen to just switch users. Anyway, I came back about 20 minutes later to find out that someone had shut off my computer. Administrator hadn't been properly logged out of, and neither had G-u-e-s-t, which had also been currently logged in. Whoever shut off my computer may have gone into G-u-e-s-t and properly logged out, but Administrator is password protected, and the only person who knows the password into that account is me, so there is no way they could have properly logged out. I went to log into the forum using a different computer, and that's when I found out I was still "logged in". Delightful. I figured that was a remnant of improperly logging out of Administrator on my own computer, so I tried logging in again, hoping it would overwrite my logged-in account. I got an error message saying "Invalid username/password combination". I tried again and got the same thing. If I kept getting it wrong, I'd be on my way to a 1-hour ban. So I tried the "forgot your password" link and was just entering my email address when I noticed that the Caps Lock was on. That was why my password was wrong. I went back, turned off Caps Lock, and entered my password, and managed to get back into my account.
Seriously, my admin account hates me. Why does it keep causing me problems...?
